Los Angeles General Medical Center, the Keck School of Medicine of USC, and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine are dedicated to creating a learning environment that supports your educational needs, health and well-being. In addition to the faculty and the physician wellness program that provides resources and support to all the residents at Los Angeles General Medical Center, we have a Resident Wellness Committee to evaluate and support the needs specific to residents and fellows. Physician wellness is a major focus of our institutions.

Match Day 2019

Emotional Health

    • Our program and institution have developed a variety of approaches in this area including mindfulness curricula, stress reduction and management education, resident retreats, support groups and mentorship programs. To encourage and empower trainees to seek help as needed, Los Angeles General Medical Center offers a free, confidential 24/7 well-being hotline and a dedicated GME Department of Wellness that staffs full-time licensed clinical psychologists and marriage/family therapists. All residents and fellows have rapid access to the institution’s Department of Wellness as needed for any mental health needs, personal or work related crises and stress management. To support the development of relationships and a sense of community, Los Angeles General Medical Center and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine sponsor social events throughout the year such as Wellness Weeks (therapy dogs, massages, raffles, free food!), Lab Week and annual holiday parties and get-togethers. We host many residency social events throughout the year, such as Knott’s Scary Farm, Paintball/Laser Tag and more. Helping Healers Heal (H3) is a third victim program that is available to debrief following a stressful event.

 Fitness and Physical Well Being

    • To help make it easier for our trainees to remain physically active, USC offers a discounted membership to the USC Health Sciences Campus Fitness Center, a fully-equipped gym located walking distance from Keck Hospital of USC. Located at 2001 Soto Street, the 10,000 square foot HSC Fitness Center houses a variety of cardiovascular and strength training equipment, group exercise rooms, locker rooms and an outdoor basketball court.

Mindset and Behavior Adaptability

    • To help our residents and fellows understand and learn to thrive and succeed in the residency/fellowship environment, we are using combinations of mentorship and coaching programs, resident support groups, team training and free mindfulness & meditation sessions.

We want all of our trainees, faculty and staff to thrive at USC and look forward to all our new residents and fellows joining the Trojan Family!
